As a PhD candidate in the Plant Agriculture Department at the University of Guelph, Mylene’s research focuses on the critical interaction between Xanthomonas spp. and Phaseolus vulgaris L. Utilizing advanced OMIC approaches such as transcriptomics and proteomics, Mylene’s aim is to unravel the molecular mechanisms underpinning the interaction between effector proteins secreted by Xanthomonas pathogenic bacteria with certain genes on the common bean plant host. Overall, it is essential to understand these mechanisms in order to improve crop protection. This work not only contributes to the scientific community’s knowledge but also has practical implications for improving agricultural practices and securing food resources in the face of growing global challenges.
